Essence of Australia Summit Explores AI in Bridal Retail

Essence of Australia’s annual summit in the bridal industry focused on artificial intelligence and changing retail habits.

Education and Design at the Summit

Essence of Australia hosted its Raise education summit for bridal retailers at its U.S. headquarters in July. The event spanned two weekends, July 20–22 and July 27–29, combining business education with runway presentations and showroom appointments.

The company’s co-owner and chief creative officer, Martine Harris, also serves as head designer for Martina Liana and Martina Liana Luxe. Harris led two sessions during the summit. One session, titled “AI Do,” paired Harris with Wallace Wilson, the company’s vice president of marketing technology. Together, they discussed how artificial intelligence is reshaping the bridal market.

The conversation covered the technology’s impact on marketing strategies, appointment quality, and store operations. It also touched on trend cycles and how retailers can remain competitive in a shifting environment.

Harris led another session called “When the Bride Can’t Decide,” which examined the changing rules of bridal retail. The discussion looked at what is driving these shifts and what they demand of retailers.

“Brides are coming into appointments with more inspiration than ever, but that doesn’t always mean they feel more certain,” said Harris. “AI is changing how they discover dresses and prepare to shop, while retailers are being asked to understand them faster and guide them with more confidence.”

The Changing Bridal Shop

Essence of Australia and its affiliated brands—Martina Liana, Stella York, All Who Wander, and Oxford Street—showcased new collections during the event. Retailers also received training and had the opportunity to schedule private showroom appointments.

For those unable to attend the summit in person, the company offers a virtual showroom. The online platform features models across a range of sizes, shapes, and skin tones, allowing retailers to view the newest collections remotely.

While technology has streamlined discovery, the fundamental dynamic between bride and shop remains complex. The influx of digital inspiration creates a paradox where more options often lead to greater indecision. Retailers must now balance the efficiency of digital tools with the emotional guidance of an in-person consultation. The industry faces the challenge of integrating automated systems without sacrificing the personal touch that defines the bridal experience. If retailers rely too heavily on algorithms, they risk alienating customers who still seek a human connection during one of life’s most significant purchases.
